The Phantom has been continually published in Australia since 1948, making it the world’s longest-running Phantom comic book.
Although The Phantom is an American comic strip character, he has been adopted by Australian readers as a ‘home grown’ hero. Yet it wasn’t until 1990 that the first Australian-written and drawn adventure of ‘The Ghost Who Walks’ appeared in The Phantom, No 951A.
The story, titled ‘Rumble in the Jungle’, was written by the Sydney publisher of The Phantom, Jim Shepherd, and illustrated by Keith Chatto, who lived between 1924-92.
The series was published by Frew Publications.
