As the popular media began to reflect the turbulent social and political changes taking place in Australia from the 1970s onwards, so too did comics.

Underground 'comix', such as Platinum Grit, were spelt with an 'X' to distinguish them from mainstream comics. Experimental in nature, comix were designed to shock and often drew the hostile attention of the establishment - making them even more appealing to readers.

Platinum Grit, published by Dead Numbat Productions, centres around the characters of Jeremy - a clueless but loveable super nerd - and Nils, a sarcastic, uber-sexy tease, which begs the question of why this couple are together at all? Jeremy inherits a castle from his crazy aunt and adventure ensues . . .
