Born in 1961, Daniel Clowes is considered one of the leading US comic artists of his generation.
The London publication of David Boring was the follow-up to his successful graphic novel Ghost World, and recounts the adventures of its central character, a 19 year-old security guard, and his lesbian friend Dot in an unnamed American city. The series was published by Jonathan Cape.
In 1998, Clowes was commissioned by Former Esquire editor Dave Eggers to be the first cartoonist to contribute a story to that magazine’s annual fiction issue.
Eggers has since gone on to champion the work of Clowes and other graphic novelists in his publication McSweeney’s Quarterly.
