Aristophanes (448-380 BCE) was an ancient Greek comic dramatist, and is often referred to as the 'Father of Comedy' or the 'Prince of Ancient Comedy'.
He wrote over 40 plays, of which 11 survive. Many of them were political and satirical in nature, targeting well-known citizens of Athens at the time.
