Das Kapital: Kritik der Politischen Oekonomie

Karl Marx

1872-1904

Karl Marx (1818-83) was a social and political philosopher whose ideas and actions helped to form the foundation of the communist movement as well as modern socialism.

This edition of Marx's seminal work, Das Kapital (Capital: a Critique of Political Economy), was published in Hamburg by Meissner. His philosophy of dialectical materialism, which asserts the importance of economic factors in history, directly informs this work.

Though he intended Das Kapital to be a comprehensive history of capitalism as well as a rigorous critique of its failings, Marx had only published the first volume of his great work when he died. The remaining three volumes were edited and published by Friedrich Engels and Karl Kautsky.
